The whole rationale behind these tees is quite simply:

These Tees are designed to reduce the amount of backspin that is imparted onto the ball at impact, it does this by reducing the amount of friction between the ball and the tee. The club head, through impact can reach as much as 100+ mph at the point of impact, at these speeds the slightest resistance can mean the loss of a number of meters in distance, , these tees un like more conventional tees, have less contact area and allow the club to sweep the ball off the tee.

As an added bonus since the ball is spinning less the effects of any hook or slice are also lessened. They are also far more durable than a traditional wooden tee and should last you around 3 to 4 rounds (again depending on conditions and how you are playing !)
