The other off- course news was Rory McIlroy splitting from his Manager Chubby Chandler’s ISM Group. Both are saying the split is amicable and perhaps Rory feels that he needs more attention than that group can give him , as they also manage Darren Clarke , Lee Westwood and Charl Schwartzel to name a few. It failed to affect his performance last week with him finishing a solid 4th behind Martin Kaymer in China.

As I mentioned last week , many players are emerging as World beaters, as the threat from Tiger has gone away , for the moment anyway ! During the Irish Open at Killarney McIlroy hooked a sand-wedge 50 yards around a tree to within 12 feet of the flag.

Voted second was Darren Clarke’s 18-foot eagle putt on the final day of The Open and third was a five-iron by Alex Noren as he captured the Nordea Masters in Sweden.
