Sure enough he had a couple of quiet events , but last night he came back with a vengeance winning the Transitions in Florida in a four man sudden-death playoff. This win immediately put him back to No1 after relinquishing the spot to Rory McIlroy for the shortest period of time. Class is class as they say , but it shows he was right to update his equipment, however well things were going.

Wins for Tiger and Lee Westwood made for great viewing this weekend. However many Tour Pros are not at all happy with the World Ranking points being awarded for these limited field events. Westwood won from a field of only twelve , while Tiger won his own tournament in a field of only eighteen. The problem is that these rankings decide who gets entry into a host of other events through the season. Tiger , winless for two years, moved up thirty-one places for coming out on top in a tense battle with Zach Johnson , making birdies at the last two holes at Sherwood Country Club in California. He certainly played those two holes flawlessly and proved that he can still pull it off when it really matters. It was as if he had to be a shot behind to bring out his best.
Woods looked far from his former , dominant , self. But who knows what will happen in the near future , when he relaxes from this win and stops fighting his golf swing , as was so in evidence this weekend.
Rory also won in Hong Kong this week and although it was not the strongest field in quality terms it was at least a full field numerically. The work he has been doing on strength in the gym was in evidence , as his arms appeared considerably bigger and as he is maturing I have no doubt he will be World No. 1 in the near future.

Presidents Cup captain Greg Norman is hoping that Tiger Woods is on his way back to his best following his impressive finish in Melbourne.
Woods thrashed Aaron Baddeley to secure the winning point as the Americans beat the Internationals 19-15.
And Norman, who skippered the International team, is among those who would like the win to act as a catalyst Woods needs to kick-start his career.
“Tiger’s Tiger – he stepped up the plate,” Norman said.
“I said to him ‘You need golf as much as golf needs you’. We all want to see him up there.
“Any player hates to see a great player struggle. We all know what it’s like to go through the ins and outs of the game.
“You want to see the player who dominated the game come back so that when you beat him you feel like you beat him at the top of his game.”
Woods was one of Fred Couples’ two wildcards for the American team – sparking a fierce debate in the sport.
Norman had thought USPGA champion Keegan Bradley would have been a better pick, however Couples has no doubts he did the right thing.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever felt vindicated in golf in 30 years, but I feel like I know what I’m doing,” he said.
“There’s a reason I picked Tiger early. He worked hard and when a guy says ‘Don’t worry about me’ you are going to smile.
“I got frustrated a bit (by the attacks on his selection) because I felt I was picking the greatest player I’ve ever seen play.
“I heard he was the Tiger of old today and Aaron Baddeley said it was phenomenal.”
Winter
With the onset of winter it is a good time to take stock of your performance through the year and plan with your PGA Pro what you can do to improve the weak areas.Usually it is the short game that needs most attention , but sadly gets least attention. Have a look the next time you are at the range and see if you can spot anybody hitting wedge shots. My bet is that the majority will be pounding away with their woods like maniacs and paying no attention to the short shots which would shave many shots off their score.
