Trade-in your trolley.

Lee Westwood continued his fantastic good form with a win in Malaysia , while former Open Winner, Ben Curtis, won in Texas and Brendan Grace bagged his third win of the year on the European Tour. Meanwhile a debate rages on whether or not “belly”, putters and the like,  should be banned. Those against the use of these clubs , argue that anchoring the club, rather than holding it with both hands, is an unfair advantage. I must say that I have no problem with them, and feel legislation against their use is unlikely.

They did it their way !

Atop the leaderboard at Harbour Town were some players with unusual techniques. Petterson,  Johnson and Knost , who filled the first three spots, all have their own way of playing and it shows you don’t have to just “bomb it” to win, especially around a quality track like Harbour Town. Too often players try to copy each other and it gave me great pleasure to see these guys do it their own way.

What a great US Masters !

Well what a great Masters ! All credit to Bubba Watson for his first Major victory, and just as much credit to Louis Oosthuizen for his behaviour in defeat. I can seldom remember a year at Augusta when so many players were in with a chance of the title, and it certainly made for great viewing. Tiger came up short once again and in my opinion until he replaces that morose look on his face with an occasional smile , he will have little chance of regaining the winning Majors habit . Some of the club throwing and cursing is hardly an example for our young  players to follow, and follow they will. Time for the authorities to do something about it in my opinion.

The best player tee to green, by some way, was our own Lee Westwood . It was painful to then see him struggle with the putter so badly. Of all parts of the game to fix , putting is the hardest and I really hope Lee can find a way to shave a couple of shots of his average , then I feel sure a Major will be his .

Well for me the season really gets going in Masters week, such a spectacular setting and quality field really gets the golfing  juices flowing. I fancy our own Luke Donald to win his first Major this week. He is in such consisitent form, has the patience required, a putter that seems hot all the time and must carry plenty of confidence as World No. One.
