Westwood changes clubs ahead of the new season

Last year’s European number one Lee Westwood has changed to a new set of golf clubs with the hope that he will soon return him to winning ways.

Ping shipped Westwood another set of clubs after he complained to them at the end of the last tournament, and he quickly found them to his liking, shooting a 63 at a charity event in Dubai on Monday.

“Missing the cut in Abu Dhabi did not look good for me,” the world number four told reporters on the eve of the Qatar Masters. “But there were valid reasons.

“After the decision (by golf’s lawmakers) to change the regulations about the grooves (this year) I had to find a new set of clubs and the timing was not good for me because I was playing some of the best golf of my life at the end of 2009.

“Unfortunately the snow back home and a family holiday did not allow me to bed in a new set … and when I got out here in the desert I did not feel comfortable. Now I am hoping to get back into the old routine.”

Westwood, who topped the European money-list last season after victory at the Dubai World Championship in November, has a club specialist in attendance this week in case he needs him.

“I have got a back-up plan here as Ping has flown out a club technician so that if I need any further minor adjustments they can be made after each round,” he said.

ProTrolley S360 – Has a big advantage

The S360 has a big advantage over other trolleys currently on the market due to its fully adjustable handle. This allows any golfer to adapt the trolley quick and easily to the most comfortable position to enjoy his / her game of golf.

This prevents unnecessary strain or pain due to a trolley being at the wrong height. A simple twist grip allows the handle to be adjusted through 270 degrees. This has a secondary benefit in that the ProTrolley S360 folds down into a much smaller size compare with other oval shaped frames.

The S360 Electric Golf Trolley has proven electronic modules that have been employed on the XL255 and the GT300 for the past 5 years. Together with the Maxi battery and the top quality charger, this package will rival and exceed any electric golf trolley currently on the market

Tiger Woods free access to GM’s vehicles is over.

The world’s number one golfer had an endorsement contract with GM’s Buick brand, but that ended in 2008.

However, an arrangement remained that allowed him to keep several GM motors on loan. A company spokesman has now said the deal ended at the end of 2009.

Woods has lost a number of endorsements since crashing his car on 27 November.

A GM spokesman said the loan arrangement had previously been scheduled to end on 31 December.

Other withdrawals

On 31 December telecoms giant AT&T said it would no longer sponsor Woods, but gave no reason for its decision.

Apart from AT&T, Accenture and razor maker Gillette, the watchmaker Tag Heuer has scaled down its use of the star, while drinks manufacturer Gatorade discontinued a line of Tiger Woods-branded energy drinks.

A recent University of California study suggested the total economic damage of the Tiger Woods affair to all involved parties could amount to as much as $12bn.

But sports equipment giant Nike, which pays Woods a reported $40m a year, has given its support.

Meanwhile, electronic game maker Electronic Arts is is to go ahead with plans to roll out an online game featuring the golfer.
